Mercurial by nature, Jazzy Vee is a 25-year-old DJ, producer, songwriter, on-air personality, and vocalist with a penchant for pulling from a variety of influences and building her own distinctive sound. Born Jasmine Viera to parents of Puerto Rican descent, the multifaceted recording artist grew up surrounded by the bustling, vibrant culture of Queens, New York, where her family not only happily encouraged her to explore her undeniably inherited talent and creativity but also made sure to help build her music education early on, exposing her to a plethora of different genres, artists, and mediums.
From inspiring an early dedication to learning dance (jazz, ballet, and tap-dancing) at the age of 4 to teaching her how to read sheet music at the age of 8, Jazzy was a quick study to learning and mastering a range of artistic forms. As her family relocated to New Jersey in 2007, Jazzy spent her teenage years studying the clarinet, joining her school's marching band, and later, landing her first lead role in her high school's musical. While she recalls being a shy, introverted kid, Jazzy's foundational experiences in the arts helped her to come into her own, turning to her music to best express herself and citing her mother's lifelong passion for drums as a driving force to pursue her own musical dreams and vision in due time.
After graduating from Pace University with a Bachelor's of Science in nursing, Jazzy found herself returning to her musical roots, this time by way of trying her hand at being an on-air personality and journalist, going on to start her own hip-hop radio program, the Level Up Show, in 2016. Jazzy began balancing her full-time career as a registered nurse and her passion for finding new ways to get closer to the artists who motivated her, with her self-made interview opportunities leading her to collaborate with WorldStarHipHop as a video model and work with a slew of reputed artists including Phresher, Uncle Murda, Safaree, and Dave East, among others. During this time, she realized that while she was genuinely enjoying being in front of the camera and getting to know more about her interview subjects, she herself was longing to return to the creator's seat once again.
After learning more about the music industry firsthand and working temporarily as an artist manager, Jazzy decided the time had arrived to begin to take her own craft seriously again. The transition from management and content creation to DJing was an organic one, with her natural networking abilities and infectious personality leading her to land gigs at a handful of popular clubs and private event spaces in New York and New Jersey alike. While perfecting the art of DJing and honing her ear, Jazzy began learning how to produce, further solidifying her destined path to make music as an all-encompassing solo artist.
During the early stages of exploring her own vocal talents and knack for beat-making, Jazzy initially gravitated toward rapping and hip-hop influences, going on to realize her passion aligned more closely with her capabilities as a singer and her interest in becoming a versatile, genre-fluid artist. Never straying far from her Puerto Rican roots, Jazzy draws from atmospheric pop, Latin music, and vast electronic soundscapes to create club-ready anthems with rich instrumentation, catchy hooks, and dexterous vocals.
With a musical palate that spans to include legacy acts (Michael Jackson, The Doors, Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan), contemporary EDM greats (Disclosure, Calvin Harris, AlunaGeorge and DJ Snake), and overall praiseworthy vocalists (Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Miguel), Jazzy enjoys music that is uplifting, diverse, and builds community, one day aiming to create her own music education program for underprivileged youth. Currently, Jazzy Vee can be found readying her debut project, producing, and playing guitar.
